New Zealanders who are blind or have low vision is growing at an alarming rate. This is a problem for us all.
Vision care has many roadblocks. Some New Zealanders may be prevented from accessing vision care because of where they live, what they believe or what they can afford. Many do not even realise they do not have good vision. They are affected by many factors including:
- GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION
They live in rural or remote areas
- IDEOLOGICAL ISOLATION
For example, they believe eyeglasses weaken the eyes
- ECONOMIC ISOLATION
They can’t afford conventional vision care
The Foundation strives to navigate these difficulties on a daily basis by taking support to these local areas, identifying vision issues and providing complimentary spectacles where necessary.
The Foundation relies on the support of the community to ensure that vision is taken care of for everyone; giving all New Zealanders a chance at the future they deserve.
